Pinot Noir 101 - What are some of the different wines produced by Clos de la Tech and why are they so different?
As we’ve noted before, the wines produced at Clos de la Tech are classic examples of great pinot noirs: the grapes are profoundly influenced by the soils they grow in and the microclimates that shape their growth. This individuality is known as terroir.
Clos de la Tech’s vineyards—Domaine du Docteur Rodgers, Domaine Valeta and Domaine Lois Louise—all have different soils, drainage and microclimates. The Domaine Docteur Rodgers is a single acre in Woodside that produces wines that mature in a way that’s closest to a Burgundy Grand Cru. Mr. McGarr has tasted Clos de la Tech’s Domaine Docteur Rodgers vintages that are 15 and 20 years old and show the two or three characteristics that Pinot Noir is famous for. These wines age gracefully and collectors will mature them for 10 to 15 years before enjoying them.
