The 2009 Release Party tasters found agreement on our Domaine du Docteur Rodgers. This has always been one of our most prized and intense Pinot Noirs. This wine comes from our first vineyard that surrounds our home in Woodside, California. A close-planted acre of vines produces grapes on clones from Dijon in Burgundy, and are certified to be genetically identical to the great Burgundian clones. Productive since 1996, we know the vines have taken to this hilltop vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, with cool evening fog and no growing season rains.

This year’s wine is dark purple with aromas ranging from black cherry, plum and cassis, to cola and earth. The palate is rich and concentrated, with broad tannins buffered by the complex fruit flavors. Big and impressive now, it will continue to improve for many years.

The Fiscalini Cheddar shows its adaptability – it was a hit with our accessible Domaine Lois Louise, and its buttery, savory charm is equally wonderful in combination with the rich complexity of  Domaine du Docteur Rodgers.
