There's a good reason Pinot Noir is one of the world's most celebrated grapes. When grown in the right locale, it makes wines that are both profound and delicious. The signature of the variety is its wildly complex aromatics and flavors that range from berries to botanicals to earth.
The berry elements of Pinot Noir include both red fruits (raspberry and cherry) and black fruits (blackberry and blueberry). The botanicals highlight dried herbs, spices, forest floor, leather and mushrooms. And the earth component includes minerals, soil and rocks.
Most luxury-class, New World Pinots are weighted towards the berry end of the spectrum. It is common for many of California's most renowned Pinots to be described as fruit bombs thanks to their overt, jammy, overripe profiles.
At Clos de la Tech we prefer parity between Pinot's three primary components. While our wines display ample layers of spicy, berry-like notes (primarily black fruits), they are also balanced with earth and botanicals.
Our winegrowing and winemaking procedures - extreme sites, close-vine spacing, low yields, foot crushing, whole cluster fermentations, and minimal handling (no racking, pumping or filtration) - ensure that our wines are complete representations of terroir and grape that will continue to improve a decade after their fruit bomb companions have faded away.
Because of our minimal handling of our wines, all of our wines are bottled unfiltered. As our wines age, we strongly recommend that you stand the bottle upright 24 hours before opening, and suggest decanting off of any sediment.
